Washington Mystics head coach Mike Thibault entered the WNBA's health and safety protocols, the team announced Wednesday.
Per the Mystics, Thibault is fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and will return upon receiving clearance from the league.
Thibault, who will turn 71 on Sept. 28, is a three-time WNBA coach of the year. He also guided Washington to the WNBA title in 2019.
Associate head coach Eric Thibault, his son, will oversee the team over the next two games. The Mystics (12-18) will visit the New York Liberty (11-19) on Friday night and host the Minnesota Lynx (20-10) in their season finale on Sunday afternoon.
Despite their sub-.500 record, the Mystics still could wind up as the No. 7 seed in the playoffs if they win both games and the Dallas Wings (13-18) lose their final game of the season Sunday at home against the Los Angeles Sparks.
