North Korean leader Kim Jong Il makes public appearance
The Dallas News.Net Saturday 11th October, 2008
North Korean media have released the first photograph of a public appearance by leader Kim Jong Il since he allegedly suffered a stroke in August.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency reports that North Korean state television Saturday showed a still picture of Mr. Kim's inspection of a female artillery unit.
North Korean media have not clarified when the appearance took place.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) first reported the military inspection on Friday, but did not make any reference to Thursday or Friday's celebrations for the founding of the ruling Worker's Party.
There were no reports of Mr. Kim's participation in the celebrations, which some observers described as more muted than in previous years.
The last confirmed public appearance by Mr. Kim was in mid-August. But Pyongyang has dismissed comments from U.S. and South Korean officials who say that Mr. Kim is recovering from an apparent stroke.
A KCNA report last Saturday said Mr. Kim attended a football (soccer) match, but provided no supporting photographs or videos.
The commander of U.S. troops in South Korea says the U.S. military has detected no sign of unusual North Korean military activity, but that the U.S. forces are prepared for any contingency.
Kim Jong Il took over from his father in 1994. It is not known if someone has been picked to succeed him.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il makes public appearance
What about free elections?
It is about time that the people should decide, their future and their way to govern themselves.
No man is that important to rule fore ever.
Kim take a hike and let the people decide through honest elections the way they want to live.

Press report fuels rumours over North Korea’s Dear Leader
Monday October 20 2008 - Speculation was mounting yesterday about the health of North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-il, after two newspapers in Japan reported that the regime was poised to issue an “important message”.
]
The Sankei Shimbun, a rightwing broadsheet, quoted an unidentified Japanese defence ministry official as saying “an announcement of important information will be made on October 20”. The report did not provide details, but analysts believe the announcement could pertain to Kim’s health, relations with South Korea or even a coup against the “Dear Leader." Others suggested the message could be less dramatic, such as the launch of an economic policy or a reshuffle in the Korean Workers' party.
The Yomiuri Shimbun said at the weekend that North Korean diplomats had been instructed not to leave their embassies and to remain on standby for an important announcement. The right-leaning Yomiuri, which quoted multiple unnamed sources, said the instruction had been sent out over the past few days. Speculation that Kim, 66, is seriously ill intensified after he disappeared from public view in mid-August, failing even to attend a parade to mark the country’s 60th anniversary on September 9.
South Korean and US officials said Kim had suffered a stroke and undergone brain surgery. North Korea, however, insists there is nothing wrong with his health. Earlier this month the Korean Central News Agency, the regime’s mouthpiece, released unverified reports that Kim had attended a football match. But doubt has been cast on the authenticity of photographs released last week purporting to show a healthy Kim inspecting a military unit. Pentagon experts said foliage visible in the background suggested they could have been taken several months ago.

Kim Jong Il Has A “Serious Health Problem”
Oct. 29, 2008 - South Korean Intelligence Indicates North Korean Leader Hospitalized, According To Paper
]
South Korean intelligence indicates that ailing North Korean leader Kim Jong Il suffered a serious health setback and has been hospitalized, a newspaper reported Wednesday. The report in the Dong-a Ilbo newspaper cited an unnamed government official in saying intelligence obtained Sunday suggested “a serious problem” with Kim’s health. The report did not elaborate. Kim, 66, reportedly suffered a stroke and underwent brain surgery in August. North Korea, however, denies he is ill. South Korea’s National Intelligence Service and its Unification Ministry said Wednesday they were aware of the Dong-a report but could not confirm it.
The report came a day after Japan’s prime minister told lawmakers in Tokyo that Kim was probably is in the hospital, though “not unable” to make decisions as North Korea’s leader. The chief of the National Intelligence Service had told lawmakers Tuesday that Kim was “not physically perfect” but still able to rule the country. Speculation about the reclusive leader’s health grew when he missed a September military parade marking North Korea’s 60th anniversary. He then disappeared from public sight for two months.
Kim, who rules the Stalinist nation with absolute authority, has not publicly named any successors, leading to concerns about an uncertain future in the impoverished, nuclear-armed nation. North Korea has sought in recent weeks to tamp down rumors about Kim’s health with news reports and footage portraying the leader as active and able, attending a soccer game and inspecting a military unit. The reports, photos and video are undated. The latest footage, aired Monday and Tuesday on North Korean television, showed Kim hitting the road earlier this year to tour farms and factories and to see the sights across the communist North.
