About Dallas  
Dallas was established in 1840/41 as a small trading settlement on the banks of the Trinity River. Named after George Dallas, the vice president of the United States (late 1840s), Dallas has ballooned into a major regional city with a metropolitan population of more than 3 million people. Like many other early towns in America, the growth of Dallas didn't mushroom until the rail network hit town in the mid 1870s.
